SERVAL’S ICE-BLUE HAIR PHASE
Serval’s Ice-Blue Hair Phase is a sci-fi thriller that follows the prompt “You think you're getting a surprise party for your twenty-first birthday, but instead, you're locked in a room. Inside are 20 versions of you, one from each year of your life so far.” I upped the age range to 20-39 because 1 to 20 didn’t seem as fun.
On his 40th birthday, Serval Fox sits with the past 20 versions of himself to reflect on his life. In honour of present-Serval, the night loosely takes the form of a roast, hosted by 29 (the year Serval had an ice-blue hair phase). Labelled by the year and the most significant action or experience that happened in said year, every version of Serval mounts the stage to share stories, videos, and slideshows.
When put into perspective, the Servals realise that the trajectory of his life changed forever when he discovered his superpower, intangibility. Apart from present-Serval, 29 is far more self-aware and conscious than the others, so he taunts the honorary guest every step of the way.
Although I've finished the story, I’m constantly restructuring the layout. It’s a weird idea that deserves to be complemented by a strong format. In the most recent edit, I introduced chapters but that may not be a permanent fixture.
